rhythmicon

Browse, analyze, and experiment with rhythmic patterns (also known as rhythms).

A rhythm is a repeated sequence of beats and rests in a steady pulse. Popular examples include two beats in four pulses (as downbeat x-x- or as upbeat -x-x-) and three beats in a pulse of eight (x--x--x-).

This page contains a collection of rhythms each listed with known names, categories, properties, and a short description. You can further modify and build your own rythms — just type in a pattern or durations in the input field right above and submit with Enter.

Some more information can be found in a glossary, the theoretical background and in related works.

Feedback is appreciated, especially if you spot an error, miss a rhythm or if you have additional information!
